12 Vehicle Preparation Preparation of your vehicle is essential to ensuring a safe trip. Know how to check the oil level and change a flat tire. Be sure you pack all the necessary items you’ll need for emergencies or hazardous weather, such as tire chains or jumper cables. 13 Vehicle Check Be sure that all systems are checked by a trained technician. Check the level of all fluids. Be sure that the headlights, turn signals, mirrors, and windshield wipers are working properly. Check your spare tire and keep a tire gauge in your vehicle.

14 Emergency Equipment Be sure to pack the following items as you prepare your vehicle for the trip: extra oil, antifreeze, and windshield-washer fluid an unused, easily operated A-B-C-type fire extinguisher first-aid kit, flares or reflectors, and a flashlight jumper cables or battery charger and spare fuses mechanic’s gloves, and a wrench, screwdriver, and pliers
