Registry of Standard Biological Parts Founded in 2003 by MIT Resources of available parts for the iGEM teams and academic labs

iGEM History Began in January of 2003 as an MIT Course Students had designed biological systems to make cells blink

iGEM History 2004 – 5 Teams Officially became a summer competition 2005 – 13 Teams, International 2011 – 165 Teams

Notable Past Projects UC Berkeley designed a red blood cell substitute from recombined E. Coli, designed to transport oxygen in bloodstream without sepsis
