4. BEFORE YOU ANSWER ANYTHING!!!!
Follow these simple steps BEFORE attempting the questions and you will be much more well equipped when you start:
READ through the entire text once.
READ through the text again, this time add WET annotations:
W – WHAT is happening? WHAT does it mean?
Brief summary next to every paragraph!
E – What EMOTIONS are explored? How does a character feel?
T – What TECHNIQUES are being used, and what is the IMPACT of each of these?

GCSE English Language Paper 1 will give you an extract from a fiction text to answer questions on.
For all of the questions except Question 1 you should use S-E-I:
Statement: Answer the question (The writer….)
Evidence: “…”
Impact: Explain what effect this would have (This shows that… This emphasises… The word ‘…’ suggests…)
Q2 and Q3 = 2x SEI
Q4 3-4 x SEI

Read again the first part of the source, up to ‘thrashing desperately around’.
