Design Develop Implement Evaluate Analysis Thanks Pamela…..Good afternoon The Analysis is the first phase in the Addie Model for instructional design. Our team completed four steps in the analysis phase the needs and performance analysis and the learner and task analysis. Some experts say that the instructional designer spends 33% of their overall project time in the Analysis phase. Our team certainly followed that theory by spending more than ¾ of the semester in this phase. Let’s first discuss the needs analysis phase. Needs Analysis Performance Analysis Learner Analysis Task Analysis
2
Needs Analysis Overview
The process of determining, analyzing, and prioritizing needs and, in turn, identifying and implementing solution strategies to resolve high-priority needs. The needs analysis determines, analyzes and prioritizes the needs of our client. It also identifies and implements the solution strategies to solve the clients high priority needs. For our project the questions is what do special education teachers need to do to align the new state assessment standards with the new ASOLs.

Needs Analysis Purpose
The purpose of our needs analysis was to: Determine the best solution T/TAC Online Actuals and Optimals Generate data to support making a recommendation Provide specific recommendations Decide priorities for action The purpose of the needs analysis is to discover the solution for T/TAC Online We determine the best solution for our client by determining the actuals and optimals>ACTUALS what are the teachers actually doing no when performing their jobs. OPTIMALS What would the client like the teachers to do in the optimal performance of their job. While gathering information for the actuals and optimals we also use that same data to generate and support a recommendation for our client. The NA also provides specific recommendations and after we have agreement with our client on the recommendations we then set priority for action. There are certain steps taken in the needs analysis to perform these action They are

Needs Analysis Steps Taken
Determine Current Status Performance Analysis Analysis of Results Teacher Expectations Identify Discrepancies Determine the Goals Set Priorities for Action The first step is to determine the current status. This is done by conducting a performance analysis The PA is the quick look into the goals of the client. For the PA our team interview two of our SME John Eisenberg and Mary Wilds we analyses the results of those interviews which gave us the current status. We also used data to understand the expectations of the teachers from our clients view. We take what is currently happening in the field with the teachers and compare that against what the teachers should be doing. This help us idenify the discrepancies The discrepancies is the gap between what actually happening and what should be done. These descrep determine the goals of the project. Then we prioritizes the goals in order of importance and set them into action. Let me take you back to the first step and discuss the PA
5
Performance Analysis Overview
Is used to determine what needs to be done in order to accomplish the client’s stated goals and objectives. Focuses on determining the elements that support the project Investigates the current situation (actuals) and desired performance (optimals) (Rossett, 1999). In the PA we determine what needs to take place in order to meet the clients stated goals and objectives. We also focus determining the elements that will support the project. The PA determines the current situation and the desired performance. Let’s look at what the is actually happen in the world of special education teachers.
6
Performance Analysis Results
Initial Actuals Teachers were not using standardized procedures for assessments Teachers didn’t have access to resources on the VA DOE website Teachers weren’t targeting the Aligned Standards of Learning
7
Performance Analysis Results
Initial Optimals Teachers will use standardized procedures for assessment Teachers will have easy access to resources Teachers will target the ASOLs for assessment Now that we understand the goals of the client we strive to understand the learner or target audience. This is conducted through the learner analysis

Learner Analysis A learner analysis is performed to determine who the users will be, what skills and knowledge are needed by the learners, the environment in which they work, and their motivations and goals for performing. In the LA we determined who the users will be. We analyzes what skills and knowledge is by the learner to complete the job. What envir. Do they work in. We also determined what the goals of the user are and what motivates them to do their job. To help us perform this LA we developed persona to represent the different users
9
Learner Analysis Why Create Personas?
Personas identify the user motivations, expectations and goals responsible for driving behavior. Although personas are fictitious, they are based on knowledge of real users. Some form of user research is conducted before they are written to ensure they represent end users rather than the opinion of the person writing the personas. There are many personas that represent our users. We create personas to identify with our users understand their motivations and expectations responsible for their behavior. Personas are fictitious but based on knowledge we acquired about the real users . The team completed research before the personas were developed. There were many personas that represent our users
10
Learner Analysis How We Developed Our Personas
Using the data collected from the surveys and interviews with SME’s, teachers and administrators we found that our users were: Novice Special Education Teacher Intermediate Special Education Teacher Expert Special Education Teacher Reluctant Special Education Teacher T/TAC Online Administrator Parent/Guardian The personas were developed by collecting data surveys , interviews w/ our SME and observations of teachers and admin in their environ. THe team developed six different personas. I’ll just touch on a few. The novice is partially licensed but is working on becoming fully licensed but completed a bachelors degree The intermediate Spec ed teacher is motivated and educated in the field of special education tech-savvy, VAAP user, energetic, eager to learn, overwhelmed with responsibility, fully licensed, through dedication can become a teacher mentor Expert Spec Ed teacher- initial contributor to lesson plan design process, special education professional, many years in special ed, administrator position in a school district, ability to mentor teachers if needed This concludes the section on the LA now lets focus on the needs analysis

Needs Analysis Data Collection
Review the manuals (VAAP, VGLA, VSEP) Attend conferences to observe teachers reactions Administer Surveys Visit schools to interact with Special Education Teachers Interview with Dr. Behrmann Interview with Mary Wilds Interview with John Eisenberg Informal talk with Jocelyn DelSignore Informal talk with Anya Evmenova As mention earlier in the needs analysis phase the team collected a considerable amount of data. The team reviewed various state manuals we attended two conferences training teacher and admin on the new VAAP process and we administered surveys we observered the users or teachers in their environment we also interviewed Dr. B, John, Mary Jocelyn and Anya. Since we have already discussed interviews the now lets discuss the data collection through surveys

Needs Analysis Survey The survey conducted for the needs analysis gathered information in the following topic areas: Demographics Technology skills Feelings about the VAAP Feelings about new Assessments The survey had four topic areas
