Do Now October 9, 2015 Warm-up: Write the art definition for the word “Line.” (reference your notes) What do you think a contour line is? Using one rule of composition, draw a picture of your hand. (remember to keep it school appropriate! And DO NOT TRACE!!) Finish the Upside Down drawing if you haven’t already. Page 34 Objective: (Copy onto your paper) SWBAT apply knowledge of Contour line by drawing their hand 2 times from observation. Office Hours Tuesdays 3:00 – 4:00 PAST DUE: Artist statement & collage

Art Room Rules… Electronics put away!** Be RESPECTFUL!!!
No Food during class!** **If you choose to consume food during class, you will be assigned detention to be served immediately following class, in which you will be washing the tables. Yes, this might make you tardy to your next class, but it will not be excused. Drink only drinks with lids that screw on! Electronics put away!** **If you do not keep electronics put away during class, your class will loose the privilege of using them during studio time! Bags off your desk and out of the aisles!

Outlines Definition: Surrounds the outside edges of a shape.
What does it Look Like? Images look FLAT. EXAMPLES: Shadows, silhouettes

Contour Lines: Describes inside AND outside edges of an object, it is one continuous line.
What does it Look Like? Drawn without lifting your pencil Drawing has details found in the object. Details = unique shapes, bumps, folds, cracks and wrinkles

Blind Contour Drawing: drawing an object without looking at the PAPER
Blind Contour Drawing: drawing an object without looking at the PAPER. Used for close observation of an object. What does it Look Like? Drawn without lifting your pencil Looks somewhat like the object Has unique details of the object The point is.. To closely observe the object so you can draw it better! NOT to look realistic or “perfect”

Blind Contour Practice (7 min CHAMPs: Individual)
Blind Contour Drawing Observe and watch the demonstration by the teacher. In the box below, draw your hand WITHOUT looking at your paper Observe at ALL the little details of your hand, drawing all wrinkles, cracks, bumps and folds. The point is.. To closely observe the object so you can draw it better! NOT to look realistic or “perfect”

Studio Time C—Level 2 H—Raise a Hand A—Follow instructions M—In Seat P—Head up, working on poster, active participation Criteria: Divide your paper into 5 sections Use the 5 types of lines to fill each section, creating an interesting design Fill 90% of the paper (NO empty spaces) Lines should create an abstract picture (Do not draw objects you can touch--faces, stick figures, clouds, animals, etc.) Use black fine tip marker to trace over lines
