12 Home reading books Year 5 can change their book on:
Monday / Wednesday / Friday Please ensure the reading diary is signed. Please make sure your child’s book is in their bag every day.

13 Home Practice and Prep Given out Friday – Expected back by the following Wednesday. All homework to be completed in their best handwriting in pencil Reading at least 15 minutes a day. Table facts Spellings Maths – work related to that week’s learning. or Topic work

14 How can you help? Read with your child every day. Sign the diary but your child should write the comment Help with Homework (How do you know?) Keep practising number bonds, tables, spellings and handwriting

16 Online Safety Taught in the Autumn term and revisited regularly throughout the year. We follow the SMART e-safety rules. In Year 5, our focus is on: the use of age appropriate websites including social media; not sharing personal information online; knowing what to do if something worries or upsets them online. As a school, we teach our children how to use the internet responsibly. However, due to the age restrictions for social media platforms, we do not expect to address issues arising from the use of social media.

23 Why do we go? Outdoor Education focuses on personal development through responsible use of the natural environment and interaction with others. Most of the activities fall into one or more of the following categories: Adventure in the outdoors Personal organisation and challenge Social skills and teamwork We aim to have fun!

24 Activities Water based: kayaking, canoeing, raft building, sailing, problem solving, gorge walking. Land based: climbing, abseiling, problem solving, team work, scrambling, orienteering, hill walking, team games, adventure day …… Depends on the weather and ability of the group.

25 New accommodation Small rooms for 2 – 4 children with en suite facilities Other schools may be there but we will be in our own section with our own facilities. School staff will supervise the children at all times, day and night.

26 What else…? Equipment – all provided.
Clothes – lots of old, warm, scruffy fleeces and jogging trousers. No jeans. Meals – cooked breakfast, packed lunch made by the children, home-made evening meals, supper.

27 Dates and cost Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th April 2018.
Cost £215 each. Includes transport, all activities and qualified instructors and full board.
