In your groups, you have 3 mins to come up with as many answers as you can to the following questions: 1. Why do we keep portfolios? 2. What goes in a model portfolio?

Setting up our Portfolios: 1. Write your name (first and last) and class on the tab on your folder 2. Staple the sheet titled "Portfolio Maintenance and Reflection" on the INSIDE of the front cover 3. Staple the sheet titled "Unit Reading and Writing Goals and Reflection" on the INSIDE of the back cover 4. Unit Assignments and Date 1 "IRA #1: Spear" /13/13 Fill in the first assignment for Unit 1, as shown above 5. Look at the goals posted on the front board. Notice there are Reading Goals AND Writing Goals. 6. Choose one Reading Goal AND one Writing Goal that you feel you need the most work on. (Look at your "Life as a Reader" rubric to help gather some ideas). 7. On the back cover of your portfolio, on the sheet labeled "Unit Reading and Writing Goals..." record these goals. Write down your writing goal. Be as specific as possible.
"Charting My Goals" Keeping your Writing goal in mind, begin filling out the following sections on the "Charting My Goals" worksheet: Write down your writing goal. Be as specific as possible. 3 reasons for wanting to attain this goal. Knowing why you want to accomplish your goal will help reinforce your motivation during the process. The more powerful the reason, the more motivated you will be. 3. Outline the specific steps you must take to achieve your goal. The more specific and incremental the steps are, the easier it will be to tackle the goal. This exercise can be done in the form of a list, diagram, or other visual representations that help you envision what must be done over the next several months. 6.
