Through the years, there have been different state flags and seals. 9. The Governor is the leader in a state. Louisiana has had many leaders. Before Louisiana was a state, several men served as leaders during early French and Spanish occupation years (1699-1803) and through the Louisiana Purchase era (1803- 1812). Since 1812 (when Louisiana entered statehood), more fifty people have served as Louisiana Governors.
