2. Štefan Sokoly We want to introduce the powerlifter Stefan Sokoly, and recorded his significant achievements in Slovakia and abroad. Sporting career began under the leadership of his father in football, in athletics /he was the junior of Slovakia. The dynamics of both sports succeeded in strengthening the power. He has remained in powerlifting, and built a career of one of the most successful athletes not only in Gemer, but in Slovakia and he is one of the most successful powerlifter nowadays. The first success he achieved after two months of an intensive training at the SR Championship in 1995, being among the best four. 1998 was a breakthrough, since from that year Števo Sokoly has been a holder of the title European Champion, 11 years continuously in 3-phase weight categories. In June 2008 in Latvia, he earned a Master of Europe, defeating an excellent competitor from Russia Šarapov.

3. Štefan Sokoly In October 2008, at The World Competition in England, Stefan Sokoly earned the title of The Master of Europe, lifting 872.5 kilograms, defeating the English competitor.

In May 2009 European Championship, he defended his title of The European Champion. His future goal is to be the best and lift 900 kilograms, which would overcome the world record. 6. Pavol Jozef Šafárik His spent his childhood in the region of Kobeliarovo (situated in northern Gemer ) characterized by attractive nature and rich Slovak culture. He gained his basic education from his father. By the age of eight, he had read the whole Bible twice. In 1805-1808 Šafárik studied at a "lower gymnasium"in Rožňava, where he learned Latin, German and Hungarian. Since he did not have enough money to finance his studies, he continued his studies in Dobšiná (Dobsina) for two years, because he could live there with his sister. Since the school in Rožňava specialized in Hungarian and the school in Dobšiná in German, and Šafárik was an excellent student and both schools had a good reputation, his successful career were fulfilled as early as at the age of 15. In 1810 - 1814 he studied at the "lyceum" of Kežmarok. He graduated from: philosophy, Latin style, history of the Kingdom of Hungary, politics and law, theology and medicine. Since this was a largely German school, he was able to get a scholarship for a university in Germany. His first bigger production was a volume of poems entitled The Muse of Tatras with a Slavonic Lyre published in 1814. The poems were written in the old-fashioned Slovak and some from the Polish language.

Pavol Dobšinský Pavol Dobšinský, a Slovak Evangelical priest, a member of the young Slovak national-awakening generation, a translator, a publicist and a folklorist was born on March 16, 1828 in Slavošovce, in what is present-day Slovakia. He attended junior high school in the town of Rožňava in what is now Slovakia and in Miskolc in Hungary. After the revolution of 1848 he acted as a secretary with Samuel Reuss in Revúca and then he was a chaplain with Ján Chalupka in Brezno. In 1855 he changed this position and was working at the parish in Bystré for three years.
