5 LCMT Measures for SAMUI Island 9 BASKETS of LCMT Measures

6 Low-Carbon Measures of Samui Low Carbon Town
Categories Measures 1. Town Structure Planning Visualization and Adaptation of Green Areas Visualization and Adaptation of Non Green Areas : Sustainable Town Planning Visualization and Adaptation of Walkable Areas 2. Transportation Planning Upgrading public transportation Diffusion of low carbon vehicles and developing charging stations Developing the space for bicycle and pedestrian Traffic congestion reduction by road improvement Providing appropriate sightseeing information system Mobility Management 3. Area Energy Planning Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCP) 4. Area Energy Management Smart Grid Micro Grid 5. Renewable Energy Solar Energy Wind Energy Small hydro power plant Categories Measures 6. Untapped Energy Use Planning Use of waste heat from incinerator to generate electricity Use of biogas from kitchen waste to generate electricity 7. Low Carbon Building Low Carbon Building Guideline Low Carbon Measures for building 8. Eco-life style Eco-Logo Low Carbon Center Eco-Point Programme Encouraging “3R x 2” Principle Eco-Activities for all stakeholders Eco-Events 9. Environmental Planning Water Supply Management Waste Water Treatment Management Solid Waste Water Management

7 Before and After the LCMT Project Implementation
Slight improvement Slight improvement Before After

8 Feedback for LCT-I System
Advantages: help improve the town performance to reach targets, but need data collection system on parameters to calculate such related indicators able to track situation via continuously monitoring the determined indicators raise the public and private sector awareness to involve in developing more low carbon projects stimulate local people and tourists to participate the low carbon features and attend more and more to support the low carbon town activities Disadvantages: costly to develop indicators where the database is not supported require coordination from relevant stakeholders to assemble indicators and make publicly available information

9 Feedback for LCT-I System
What are the difficulties in the evaluation process? How do you think the LCT-I System can be improved? unclear definitions and questions to those answers to be evaluated different town characteristics may not require same questions to be evaluated bias evaluation without evidence or proof How are you going to utilize the evaluation results? Any expectations for the LCMT secretariat to further develop the LCT-I System? periodically assess LCT-I and see how the score in each category be improved LCT-I shall be reviewed from time to time to be improved from the feed-back from the economies
