Chico Mendez Some of this content has been copied from 2 books: Chico Mendez (Defender of the Rainforest) By Joann J. Burch Brazil By Ann Heinrichs NOTE: All this info is from the books listed avobe

Brazil Brazil is a large country Its northeastern part. The costal places in Brazil are good for farming, cattle grazing. In Brazils economy Some people are rich. Other are middle class-average Brazilians. Some are poor, the poor people live in favelas Brazilians that live near rivers (flooding zones) usually have poles holding up their homes Brazilians love playing soccer. They won the World Cup Championship in 1994. They also use a fuel called Ethyl alcohol instead of gasoline. It is also less pollutant than gasoline

Info The rainforest in the Amazon was cutting down. Chico Mendez was trying to stop this. Farmers and Ranchers would get angry about them. Then gunmen came, they retreated because of seeing children and adults. They dropped their guns and retreated. Some farmers and ranchers would try to bribe him. He didnt accept it.

What He Did Mainly he defended the rainforest The rainforest is the Amazonian in Brazil. He would stop people from cutting the trees in the Amazon rainforest. Ranchers and Farmers wanted to cut down the trees for cattle grazing and farms, pastures. Chico Mendez stopped this.

Varieties About 90 types of frogs and toads live there, about 54 ants live. There are even more types of fish there than in the Atlantic Ocean. I do wonder all the names of the fish. Im guessing one of them are clownfish, maybe?

How Long? The Amazon River is longer than the US highway that stretches along New York and then ends in San Francisco.

What Did They Have I guess that… They must have no electronics Transportation too I think there may be no electricity? I have no idea

Who Hurts More? Farmers actually hurt less. The ranchers actually hurt more because they need land for cattle, e.g. cows, goats, pigs. That was an act of Chico Mendez. He stopped farmers and ranchers from cutting trees Most of Brazil I guess is covered by rainforest. I am pretty sure it is sure

Who Killed Chico? Darci Alves da Silva shot him. Other gunmen were there too. They were hiding in the bushes ready to shot and kill him.
