The seventh grade social studies curriculum consists of the following content area strands: Civics, Geography, and Economics. The primary content for the course pertains to the principles, functions, and organization of government; the origins of the American political system; the roles, rights, responsibilities of United States citizens; and methods of active participation in our political system. The course is embedded with strong geographic and economic components to support civic education instruction.

Class Expectations Be prompt Be prepared
Be ready to learn when class begins. Tardy students will receive a conduct cut, excessive tardies will result in after school detention Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time and always do your best. There is always enough time given to prepare.

My Teaching Style I try to ensure that I meet all learners in my class
To do this I incorporate different methods of my delivery of instruction Class Lecture and Notes (Gateway) Mr Raymond/FLREA powerpoint Technology (Tablets/videos) Games (Kahoots/Quizlet/Plickers)

Homework -Homework is written weekly on both the board and on my website -Will mostly consist of Edgenuity, an online resource that coincides with the Benchmarks taught in class

Tests and Quizzes Quizzes- Given at end of every 1-2 Benchmarks (1 grade) Tests-Given at end of every Topic (2 grades) -Will be given plenty of notice ahead of time -online assessment done District-wide to monitor student mastery of Benchmarks

Data Tracking At the end of every Topic test I will sit with each student and do a “Data Chat” This holds the students accountable for their scores and mastery of the material

70-100% I GOT IT! 50-69% I understand most of it, but I need to REVIEW this Benchmark 0-49% I DO NOT UNDERSTAND….I NEED HELP and MUST STUDY this Benchmark

Technology Civics is a course where we integrate tablet usage.
We will use various programs to accelerate and ensure mastery of topics that have been taught Those most used are: Edgenuity Civics 360 iCivics FloridaStudents.org

Civics EOC Civics is a course in which students must take an End-of-Course Evaluation This test accounts for 30% of the students overall grade 35 Benchmarks are Assessed

How will the percent be calculated into my grade for the FSA EOC’s? The final grade will be calculated using the following formula, which traditional point values for the letter grade: (Final Grade assigned by teacher x .70) + (Grade assigned by EOC x .30) Teacher Final Grade FINAL Grade EOC Score=5 or 4 30% as A EOC Score=3 30% as B EOC Score=2 or 1 30% as D A B C D F

In % of students passed Civics with a 3,4, or 5. Last year, 2017, 82% of students passed Civics! This year I know we can surpass those scores! Its up to YOU!!!! If you put in the work, we can achieve this goal!
