1
Constant Velocity Lab Purpose:
To find the distance from the end of the test tube to the hidden stopper Opening Activity: sit with your lab group
2
Materials for the lab: Constant velocity tube Meter stick
Masking Tape (DO NOT PUT TAPE ON THE BLACK CONSTRUCTION PAPER PART OF THE TUBE!! YOU ARE TO REMOVE THE MASKING YOU USE SHOULD YOU USE ANY! stopwatch
3
Procedure: Your group needs to write this and turn it in!!
4
Using the available materials; find the velocity of the bubble in the visible part of the tube
repeat EACH test 5 times to get an average! develop a plan for how to find the position of your stopper from the end of the tube Write out: see next slide No Cheating! You can not remove the paper from the end of the tube that is covered or try to hold the tube up to the light (and each tube is different!) HINT: remember the equation for velocity/speed!
5
Write out: your procedure for how you will find the velocity of the bubble and your distance of the stopper Your paper should include your names, color of tube, velocity of bubble in the tube, the procedures used, ALL WORK and the distance from the stopper to the covered end of the tube! Clearly mark this distance!!! Neatness counts! Show everything…all data collected Note: remember Repeat!!! 5 times for all data collection!!! Remove any masking tape you put on the clear part of the tube and put supplies AWAY
7
Get a whiteboard Explain how your group conducted the lab; include your data collected and calculations in your description!! (you may use pictures to help illustrate how you did the lab as well)
8
Find the other group with the same colored tube: discuss how each group came about their results
Did you end up with the same answer? If there were differences…why ? What errors could have taken place?
9
Each person must complete a lab write up!
