2. Reminder: Sources Required
6 reputable research sources including:
At least 2 print sources
At least 3 sources from a database or ebook library
Maximum 1 reputable websites (.edu, .gov)
Citing sources = noting where the information is from in enough detail so a reader can re-find it!

3. Source Information
All of your source information should be entered into easybib as soon as you start using that source…
Make sure you are in the correct easybib project and the bibliography….

4. Use the Tabs for the Specific Source: Website, Book, Database

5. Search for Sources but Use Exact Spelling!

6. Print Sources Use the “Book” tab
ex. Demo: Prentice Hall Literature: World Masterpieces

7. Database Sources
All of your database sources will have citations at the end of the source so it is easiest to just copy and paste into easybib
If there are multiple methods of citation (e.g. MLA and APA), select MLA7

8. Do not include the url for database sources!

9. To cut and paste, go to the “All 59 options” tab and select “Write/paste citation”

10. Just paste in the source and hit “Create Citation”

11. Website Sources
Copy the url from the browser when you are on the webpage you are using
Paste into easybib on the website tab
REVIEW THIS INFORMATION and fill any additional information that is missing
Look for the red bordered boxes, these need information
GATHER AS MUCH OF THIS INFORMATION as possible

15. Read What You Need
Read from the most general source to the most specific
For example, read an encyclopedia entry first to get an overview of the topic
You don’t need to read everything
Skim the source to understand how the document is laid out and what the main ideas are
Read chapter titles, section headings and bold faced words BEFORE you read the section

16. Read What You Need Break down the text into small groups of paragraphs
Read each group one by one and take notes between reading groups
Doing “bite sized” pieces will help you process the information
Write down every fact that may be of use in your paper

Paraphrase – summarizing for smaller sections of the text (e.g. a paragraph)
Must be cited
Quote sections of text word for word
NOT CITING YOUR SOURCES IN ANY OF THESE INSTANCES IS PLAGIARISM
PAPERS FOUND TO BE PLAGIARISED WILL RECEIVE A ZERO GRADE

18. Make sure you are in the correct project and go to the “Notes & Outline” tab

19. Press the Green Button to add a “New Note”

20. Make your title fairly specific, to help with organizing later

21. ALWAYS select your source; it should already be in easybib!

22. You MUST enter a direct quote, or a paraphrase, or both!

23. You do not need to add a Comment or an Identifier

24. Use the “Organize” function to organize your notes into “Groups” (major sections) and colors (paragraphs)

Paraphrasing

Reread the passage you are paraphrasing until you understand its full meaning

30. Steps to Paraphrasing Reread the passage to understand its meaning
Set the passage aside and write the meaning in your own words (don’t refer back to the passage).
Check your paraphrase with the original passage for the following:
Does it include all the most necessary information?
Does it make sense?
Have you borrowed any exact words from the source? Can you substitute these words with a synonym or a phrase? If not, use quote marks to identify the unique word borrowed from the source.
