Math-7 NOTES What are Two-Step Equations??
DATE: ______/_______/_______ What: TWO-step equations Why: To solve both multiplication and division two-step equations. NAME: What are Two-Step Equations?? Two-Step Equations are equations that have two operations . Or, there are __________ numbers to “get rid of” in order to _________________________ the variable! To Solve a Two-Step Equation: 1) Zero Pairs (get rid of # that is being added/ subtracted) 2) Multiply or Divide Examples: 3x + 2 = (“3” and “2” are the #’s with “x”) (subtract “2” from both sides to make zero pair) 3x = (re-write equation) (divide by 3 on both sides) x = 8 _x_ + 3 = (“-2” and “3” are the #’s with “x”) (subtract “3” from both sides to make zero pair) _x_ = (re-write equation) -2 -2 • _x_ = 10 • (multiply by -2 on both sides) x = -20 Multiplication Two-Step Equations: 2x + -3 = ) -5x – 6 = 29 3) x = ) = 9 – 9x

Division Two-Step Equations:
_x_ + -3 = ) _x_ – 6 = 56 10 + _x_ = ) = _x_
