Background The Battle of Yorktown took place on September 28, and carried on til October 19, 1781 Two sides in this battle were the French and the Patriots, versus the British

What happened? 17,000 French and Continental troops, led by General George Washington up against 9,000 British troops who were led by General Lord Charles Cornwallis. The French and the Patriots fought their way through a series of parallels until the finally reached Yorktown. When new artillery pieces joined the line of the allies the firepower on Yorktown was too much for the British. On October 19, 1781 Cornwallis surrendered. This was the decisive point in the war, which resulted in the British defeat, and resulted in the Treaty Of Paris. The Patriot
