2
Identify the Problem We need to hit golf balls in a hole
3
Define the Working Criteria
Build a machine that can hit golf balls on a green Get the balls to return
4
Research and Gather Data
We watched a number of videos of Rube Goldberg machines
5
Identify Constraints Machine must fit in a 3’x3’ area
Activated by a single action Under $30 Uses golf club to hit balls Safe Hits 8 out of 10 balls
6
Brainstorm for Creative Ideas
We did a lot of sketching Discussed different possibilities
7
Sketches
8
Analysis and Predictions
We predict out machine will be able to hit all 10 golf balls Hopefully precise enough to hit hole-in-ones
9
Optimization Decided attaching the golf club to a drill was a good way to keep the club swinging Used duct tape to attach the wooden ramp pieces
10
Develop Models and Test
11
Develop Models and Test
after numerous test runs we decided we needed to do something about the ball occasionally rolling off the track
12
Implement the Solution
We added more wood around the track to keep the ball from escaping
13
Communicate the Results
Created a website for the project This power point
