Circular Motion Practical 1 Analysis
2
Graphs - Plotting You need to plot 2 graphs: v Vs r and v2 Vs r. Put r on the x-axis of both graphs. Plot the data but don‘t draw in best fit lines yet! *plot the graphs on 2 separate pieces of graph paper* Remember your rules for graphs: Use sensible scales (don’t go up in 3s, 6s, 7s or 9s), your plotted points must take up a minimum of 50% of the A4 page….it doesn’t count if your trim the edges! Plot your points accurately Label the axis and give the graph a title

Graphs – Trend lines When you have plotted each graph, look at the data and decide whether you should draw a line of best fit or a curve of best fit. Curves should be drawn as one smooth line, you should not lift your pencil once you start drawing and you should not join dot to dot. Lines of best fit should be on single, straight line drawn with a ruler. The points should be distributed evenly either side of the line. Describe the relationship shown in each graph.
4
Graphs – Analysis For your graph of v2 Vs r, calculate the gradient of your line. Find the maximum and minimum gradient using the box method. Calculate the uncertainty in your gradient. What does your gradient represent in terms of physical quantities?
5
Uncertainty Calculations
Calculate the maximum uncertainity in your raw data (radius and time) Calculate the uncertainty in v2. Calculate the uncertainty in a.
6
Analysis Are your results reliable?
To determine this, you should look at: Repeat readings – do they agree? Uncertainty in a – is it acceptable? Are there any anomalies?
7
Conclusion What did you find out in the experiment? This should be linked back to your hyphothesis.
8
Evaluation What were limitations in your method?
How could errors have been introduced? How could this be minimised?
