1 in 3 US teens, age will experience pregnancy About half of these pregnancies will end in live birth About 1/3 will terminate the pregnancy About 1 in 7 will end in a miscarriage

2 TEEN PREGNANCY CHOICES

3 ADOPTION-CLOSED ADOPTION-OPEN
Adopting Parents/Placing Parents never meet and know nothing or very little about one another ADOPTION-OPEN Sharing of information and/or contact between the adoptive and biological parents of an adopted child This can occur before, during and/or after the placement of the child

4 ADOPTION-SAFE HAVEN Nevada law (NRS 432B.630) states that a birth parent (mother or father) may leave their newborn, 30 days old or younger who does not appear to be abused or neglected, at a designated Safe Haven location. Locations include Local Hospitals, Urgent Care Facilities, any Manned Fire or Police Station Call HOPE Medical history questions including your baby’s medical record will help to answer health questions

6 Teen Mothers… Teen Mothers: Only 1 in 10 graduates with her class
Only 4 in 10 get a high school diploma Only 1.5% will earn a degree by age 30 80% of teen moms go on welfare Only 30% receive child support

7 Teen Fathers: Teen Parents May feel left out and powerless
May need to quit school to work May live in poverty, possibly for life May have feelings of anger and regret

8 Teen Pregnancy: the Children
Children born to teen parents are more likely to: be low birth weight have health problems and be hospitalized die in infancy be poor, abused or neglected be low achievers in school & have social & behavioral problems Be incarcerated in their teens or 20’s To be unemployed and to become teen parents They are Less likely to graduate from high school
