Chaplin's First 'Talkie' The Great Dictator is an American comedy drama and anti-Nazi film starring, written, produced, scored, and directed by Charlie Chaplin. It is his first 'talking' picture, as well as his most commerically successful motion picture.
Controversial Film Was Well Received in the United States and U.K
The picture was a complete satire of fascism. It was a contemporary criticism of Hitler's rise to power. At its full release, the United States was still formally at peace with Nazi Germany.
