3 Introduction to business & technology
Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry. Apply technology as a tool to increase productivity to create, edit, and publish industry-appropriate documents. Master word processing software to create, edit, and publish professional-appearing business documents. Analyze and integrate leadership skills and management functions within the business environment. Demonstrate understanding of the concept of marketing and its importance to business ownership. Use professional oral, written, and digital communication skills to create, express, and interpret information and ideas.

4 Introduction to business & technology
Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship through recognizing a business opportunity, how to start a business based on the recognized opportunity, and basics of how to operate and maintain that business. Understand, interpret, and use accounting principles to make financial decisions. Develop effective money management strategies and understand the role and functions of financial institutions. Research and interpret the various risks involved in operating a business while determining the role of insurance for a business. Examine basic human resources and the legal aspects of a business while incorporating the methods into business practices

5 Accounting Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry. Analyze and evaluate the role that accountants play in business and society. Utilize career-planning concepts, tools and strategies to explore, obtain and/or consider an accounting career. Demonstrate and understanding by applying the steps of the accounting cycle to prepare financial statements for proprietorships and corporations. Apply generally-accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and explain how the application of GAAP impacts the recording of financial transactions, and the preparation of financial statements.

6 Accounting Demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of the preparation of financial statements. Analyze the financial condition and operating results of a business for informed decision making. Evaluate and determine suitable internal accounting controls to ensure the safe guarding of assets. Summarize payroll procedures in order to calculate, record, and distribute payroll earnings and related tax liabilities.

7 Financial Literacy Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry. Identify various forms of income, and analyze and evaluate factors that affect income as a part of the career decision-making process. Analyze taxes in the United States and evaluate the effect on personal income. Develop and evaluate a spending and savings plan while applying rational decision making to personal spending and saving choices. Analyze checking accounts and other banking services and explain how financial institutions channel funds from savers to investors.

8 Financial Literacy Analyze factors that affect the choice of credit, the cost of credit, and the legal aspects of using credit. Evaluate savings and investment options to meet short- and long-term goals. Analyze laws and options available to consumers for protection from deceptive or unfair business practices. Evaluate how to help deter, detect, and defend against identify theft. Evaluate various consumer loan options and analyze factors that affect lending decisions. Explain the principles of risk management and insurance as a strategy to protect against financial loss.

12 Certification These are the various Microsoft certifications that are available. Word and Excel are the only two Microsoft technologies that have an Expert level exam. To achieve Master level, you must earn 4 specialist certifications plus 2 expert certifications. This is a major accomplishment.

Certifications can help students: Differentiate yourself in today's competitive job market Broaden your employment opportunities by displaying your advanced skills Result in higher earning potential There is a global need for people highly skilled in Microsoft technologies, and Microsoft Certifications are the credentials you need to impress employers! When we start the IT Academy at school we share several slides to motivate the students. This is a good slide to share with your students to motivate them. We show this slide to all of our students at the beginning of the semester. They also enjoy seeing their classmates who have earned certifications. Jake is our student from last year who was named the 2013 MS PowerPoint National Winner and represented the U.S. in the World competition.
