1 Notes: Leaf Structure Cuticle Upper Epidermis Palisade Mesophyll
Vascular Bundle (Xylem & Phloem) Spongy Mesophyll Lower Epidermis Guard Cell Stomata

2 Cuticle: waxy covering over epidermis.
Epidermis: outermost layer of cells on the leaf (like our skin). Stoma: openings in the cuticle of the leaf for gas exchange. Guard cells: cells that open and close the stoma.

3 Mesophyll: Tissue that makes up the majority of the leaf
Palisade mesophyll- closely stacked cells- site of most photosynthesis Spongy mesophyll- spread out cells that allow for air to flow in/out. Allows for gas exchange (air coming in/out of stomata).

4 Vascular Bundle: xylem and phloem (vessels that transport food, water and nutrients up/down the plant). Petiole: Attaches leaf to stem of plant.
