Divorce is accepted as normal part of life
More children are being brought up by cohabiting parents

4. What are the reasons for this change
Effective contraception made it safer to have sex before marriage.
Fewer people went to church

5. Key Facts
Fifty years ago, most people only had sex in marriage, and they married in church. Today, most people have sex before they marry, fewer people marry, cohabitation is acceptable and only a minority of marriages take place in church.
