If you completed the FAFSA online and provided an address you should have received a Student Aid Report (SAR) via Dream Act filers can check their application status by visiting Review your SAR or Dream Act application for accuracy and comments that require follow up

Verification Process Additional Documents
Students may be randomly selected for “Verification” by FAFSA or the California Student Aid Commission (Dream Act) The Financial Aid & Scholarships office may request: Verification Worksheet Copies of IRS tax transcripts / tax returns W-2 forms Processing of an application will be delayed if documents are not submitted or incomplete Verification may take up to 4-6 weeks to process

Claim Your Cal Grant You must claim your Cal Grant by logging into your WebGrants account at mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov and confirming: School of attendance (or change selected school); and High School graduation (if your high school did not certify it for you) CSUCI will not be notified of your Cal Grant eligibility if you do not claim your award Your award will be withdrawn at the end of the academic year if unclaimed The Cal Grant award is limited to 4 academic years You must take 15 units each semester or 30 units per year to graduate in 4 years (AB 2248)

Federal Loan Types Student Loans
Federal Direct Subsidized (interest rate 5.05%*) Offered amount varies depending on financial need and grade level Federal Direct Unsubsidized (interest rate 5.05%*) Offered amount varies depending on grade level Parent Loans Federal Direct PLUS (interest rate 7.6%*) If your parent is interested in borrowing this loan, they must first complete an online application at studentloans.gov to determine if they will qualify based on their credit history *Rates are subject to change annually

Accepting Federal Loans
Students Parents Subsidized Loan and/or Unsubsidized Loan Parent PLUS Loan Loans are used to pay for student’s educational expenses Loan is used to pay for dependent student’s educational expenses These loans are in the students name and the student is responsible for repayment This loan is in the parents name and the parent is responsible for repayment No credit check necessary Credit approval required Next Steps: Accept the loan offer in myCI portal Complete Entrance Counseling on studentloans.gov Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) on studentloans.gov Parent should apply for a PLUS Loan on studentloans.gov to see if they qualify If approved, parent should complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) on studentloans.gov Processing Time: 2-4 weeks once both steps are completed

Search for Off-Campus Scholarships A word of caution, if it costs you money to search or apply, it is probably not a legitimate opportunity Apply for a Direct PLUS Loan If your parents credit is approved, your parent may request an amount up to your Cost of Attendance minus all other accepted financial aid Apply for a Private Education Loan This is a credit-based loan. If you have no or limited credit, you are encouraged to have a co-signer to reduce the variable interest rate

Important Items Enrollment Requirements and Financial Aid
Grants are awarded based on full-time enrollment (12+ units) If not full-time, grants will be prorated and/or reduced Must be enrolled at least half-time (6+ units) to borrow any federal loans Semester Charges vs. Annual Aid You will be charged tuition & fees and room & board per semester (if living on campus) Your financial aid is awarded for the entire award year (includes fall and spring semesters) Be sure to plan accordingly!

Any viewable Financial Aid Awards are estimates only In order to graduate in 4 years, you must take a minimum of15 units per semester (or 30 units per academic year) CSUCI Scholarships require a minimum of 15 units per semester Only Community College students are eligible for the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOGG Fee Waiver) FERPA Authorization Form Consent to release student information must be completed each academic year You must have completed all FA items on your To Do List in order to receive a financial aid award
