1 Define what a computer is.
Also called processor an electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations.

2 Define the types, sizes, and functions of computers.
Computers can be generally classified by size and power as follows, though there is considerable overlap: Personal computer: A small, single-user computer based on a microprocessor. Workstation: A powerful, single-user computer. A workstation is like a personal computer, but it has a more powerful microprocessor and, in general, a higher-quality monitor. Minicomputer: A multi-user computer capable of supporting up to hundreds of users simultaneously. Mainframe: A powerful multi-user computer capable of supporting many hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously. Supercomputer: An extremely fast computer that can perform hundreds of millions of instructions per second.

4 Explain the difference between system software and application software.
System software is a software that deals directly with the architecture of the computer hardware. Operating system is a system software. Application software is a software that interacts with end users and basically does whatever end user is working on. Application software does NOT deal with the architecture of a computer.

5 Explain how society uses computers in education, finance, government, health care, science, publishing, travel, and manufacturing Society uses computers for everything, texting, driving, flying planes, getting a snack, going on facebook. There are innumerable uses for computers and absolutely no way to state them all.
