1 Need more help? Attend after school sessions
An independent creative approach that shows application of camera settings and composition. Added detailed notes to explain why you might change the aperture settings when taking photos. Taken 2 different images showing different apertures. Wide and shallow DOF. Note down the exposure settings. Find an image that demonstrates shallow and wide DOF. Record how DOF relates to aperture To change the aperture camera settings to explore DOF. To take seris of images showing knowledge of DOF Notes about the exposure triangle and aperture settings Take some shots of things in a line, objects or people, varying the aperture settings to get different items in focus. Present your photos and all notes in a ppt titled ‘Aperture and DOF’ write up what you have done Save into student in and your user area Need more help? Attend after school sessions

2 What does ‘EXPOSURE’ mean in photography
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field What does ‘EXPOSURE’ mean in photography ? Exposure is the amount of light you introduce to film or an image sensor. This then determines what is actually recorded.

3 There are three adjustable elements that control the exposure…
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field There are three adjustable elements that control the exposure… ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. This is the Exposure triangle

4 The Aperture is a hole over the lens that lets in light.
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field The Aperture is a hole over the lens that lets in light. A camera's aperture setting controls the area over which light can pass through your camera lens, like your pupil. Dark conditions, pupils gets larger to let in more light Light conditions, pupils gets smaller to let in less light

5 Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field Aperture is measured in ‘F-stops’. F stands for ‘Focal Length’ These are seen as a series of numbers with an ‘f’ in front e.g f2.8, f5.6, f22 When you change from one aperture to the next it is called moving down / up a stop.

6 What do you notice about the aperture hole and the aperture number?
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field What do you notice about the aperture hole and the aperture number? More light Less light

7 SHALLOW DOF small number
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field One subject in focus SHALLOW DOF small number Depth of Field (DOF) This is the amount of distance within a photograph that is sharp. The D.O.F is controlled by the aperture. Everything in focus WIDE DOF large number

8 SHALLOW DOF small number
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field One subject in focus SHALLOW DOF small number Everything in focus WIDE DOF large number

9 Large aperture hole = small number
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field Large aperture hole = small number Small aperture hole = large number More light Less light

10 Subject in focus(flowers) Blurred background Everything in focus
Lesson objective – Practise using different aperture settings Create series of photographs that show Depth Of Field Subject in focus(flowers) Blurred background Everything in focus Shallow DOF= Small number=Large aperture Wide DOF=large number=small aperture
