1 Hamlet--Act 2, Sc 1 Polonius sends Reynoldo to Paris to question Laertes of Hamlet’s behavior Lines 36-39—Polonius believes Hamlet’s behavior may be due to “a fiery mind” The immaturity of youth Lines 87-94—Ophelia reports that Hamlet is un-kept and disheveled. Polonius then concludes Hamlet is acting mad b/c he is mad for Ophelia’s love.

2 Hamlet--Act 2, Sc 2 The King welcomes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to Elsinore to spy on him to reveal Hamlet’s mad behavior. Polonius also agrees to spy for Hamlet. Hamlet enters at line 187, claiming that Polonius is a fishmonger (190). Polonius concludes “he is far gone” (206).

3 Hamlet--Act 2, Sc 2 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern enter and Hamlet tells them DK is a prison (260-66). R+G say they have come only to visit him, but Hamlet knows “the good king and queen have sent for you” (303-4).

5 Hamlet--Act 2, Sc 2 Hamlet welcomes the players.
He asks them if they can perform The Murder of Gonzago, the plot of which mirrors what has occurred in Elsinore. Hamlet wishes to see Claudius’s response to the plot, as Hamlet will use this to confirm Claudius’s guilt.

6 Hamlet--Act 2, Sc 2 Lines 576-634—Hamlet’s second Soliloquy.
Hamlet admires the players for showing passion in make-believe. —Hamlet berates himself for being unable to act on his desire for vengeance. 624-34—His reason for staging the play
