Mrs.Hawkins ext 5th hour prep In this course students will receive instruction in reading and writing. Students will participate in a balanced literacy program that involves whole group and small group instruction. They will complete daily literacy and writing tasks and projects. Students will be assessed by their reading levels, comprehension and fluency of reading, on demand writing assessments and quarterly writing projects (essays). 1st hour 7:51-8:52 2nd hour 8:56-9:56 3rd hour 10:00-11:00 A Lunch 11:04-11:34 4th hour 11:38-12:38 5th hour 12:42-1:42 6th hour 1:46-2:46 Benchmark Literacy Quarter 1 Unit 2: Identify Sequence of Events Unit 4: Summarize Information Quarter 2 Unit 7: Draw Conclusions Unit 1: Main Idea and Supporting Details Unit 6: Cause and Effect Quarter 3 Unit 10: Make Judgements Unit 9: Fact and Opinion Unit 8: Author’s Purpose Quarter 4 Unit 3: Make Inferences Unit 5: Compare and Contrast Writing: Maisa Units Personal narrative, Informational/Explanatory Essay-Cause and Effect, Persuasive (Argument) letter, and Literary Essay 75% - Tests, Quizzes, Papers and Projects 25% - Daily Work (Classwork, Homework) LATE WORK: Students are expected to be responsible for turning in assignments on time. They will have opportunities to turn in late work, however, if this occurs repeatedly then students will be required to use their lunch time to make up late assignments. ABSENTEE POLICY: Students are responsible for looking in the agenda binder and copying down the agenda for days missed. Worksheets or notes that were missed will be available for make-up. BATHROOM PROCEDURE: Please utilize the 4 minute break between classes to use the bathroom. In case of an immediate need, students will need to use one of their hallway passes. For the two hour blocks, students will receive the 4 minute break between periods. MISSED HOMEWORK: Copy agenda from the agenda binder. See daily drawers for any missed work. 1 make-up day given for each day absent. UNPREPARED FOR CLASS: There are consequences for not being prepared for class. If students consistently come to class unprepared, they will be given a blue slip and parents will be contacted. When a student does not follow these rules and expectations these steps will be followed: Warning (Possibly 2 warnings) Blue slip Another blue slip and parent contact.
