Pure black Pure white These are value scales, you may have made these in Art class. A full value scale uses pure black, pure white and all the grays in between

Artists practice a grayscale
FIRST to be sure there is a FULL GRAYSCALE in their final drawing. A full grayscale assures they have enough CONTRAST for the art to be interesting to the eye.

REMEMBER: The pictures with the best contrast and interest have a full value scale In a pinhole camera, this can only be achieved with a light-tight box. If light leaks into the box, you will have fogging of the whites, and the the darks will be too dark.
