About the Hand Protection Industry
Hand injuries are the second-leading cause of injury in the workplace. Effective hand protection can minimize or eliminate many injuries and long-term debilitating consequences. Evolution of the hand protection industry has come a long way since the advent of simple chore gloves made of cotton, jersey or bulky canvas. Number one category for PPE According to OSHA, eye injuries are the leading cause of lost days at work due to on-the-job injuries; however, hand injuries also contribute to a significant number of lost days on the job. The proper hand protection can often minimize or eliminate the problem. It is just a matter of educating employees on the purpose for and proper use of hand protection. The industry is changing quickly and it is important to be aware of the options available to you.
4
USA Marketplace for Industrial Gloves
USA industrial marketplace is estimated at $1,100,000,000. Largest in the world. Does not include retail, (hba, home garden, hardware, etc) or medical.
5
Standards Compliance The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) provides standards so manufacturers can classify their products for specified areas of glove performance. They develop tests to evaluate many glove characteristics, including: Cut resistance/puncture resistance/abrasion resistance Chemical resistance Flame resistance/heat resistance/cold resistance Seam strength The industry has put standards in place, both domestically and abroad, to insure that products are designed and manufactured to insure protection for the users.

History of Cut Resistant Gloves
Pre-1975 = leather and cotton Mid-1970s = switch to knitted products Dupont’s introduction of Kevlar 1980s = Automated knit glove machine replaces cut and sew products. 1980s & beyond = Many customers saw a 20-60% reduction in loss time injuries due to cuts, slashes and burns. Mandates for hand and arm protection from many companies including Honda, Ford, Cuddy, Tyson and others.
65
Cut resistant marketplace
The cut resistant business using high performance fibers has grown dramatically over the past 10 to 15 years. Cost due to lost time injuries from cuts Marketing efforts that focus attention on the advantages of safety products. Vast Improvement in product materials Standardization of measurement Better dexterity, protection, grip characteristics
66
Cut testing The industry requires standardized test procedures.
Procedures must realistically simulate the cutting hazard. Test must be applicable to a wide range of materials. Test must be reproducible from operator to operator, and laboratory to laboratory One industry-accepted test exists: Cut Protection Performance Test
67
CPP testing Cut Protection Performance (CPP) test developed by American Society for Testing and Materials. CPP test uses force displacement technique. The test measures the force required for a razor blade to cut through a fabric with one inch of blade travel. The instrument can apply forces from 25 grams to 15 kilograms

70
ANSI/ISEA Cut Resistance Levels
Developed the ASTM F1790 test (using the CPP Tester) Provides manufacturers with a mechanism to classify their products. Information from this testing and classification can be used to help users select appropriate hand protection. End-users must select gloves based on a risk assessment involving the identification of hazards and determination of risk exposure to those hazards.

CUT RESISTANT GLOVE SIZING GUIDELINES
This guide is intended to give the user an approximate size of the Samurai™ glove to wear. The Samurai cut resistant gloves come in full sizes only. If, by following the guidelines below, you fall into a number that is less than an even size, we recommend that you try a glove that is one size smaller. Please remember: gloves should fit snug, not tight. These are knit products and will stretch slightly to fit. The fingers should be completely to the end of the glove fingers for best performance. Take a soft cloth tape measure and wrap around the hand that is to wear the glove, starting at the thumb crotch. Where the tape crosses over itself you should have a number between 5 and 11. Take the number and apply to the following sizing guidelines: Measurement of 5 is a XX-small size glove. (Gray Overedge Color) Measurement of a 6 is a X-small glove. (Gold Overedge Color) Measurement of a 7 is a small glove. (Red Overedge Color) Measurement of a 8 is a Medium size glove. (Green Overedge Color) Measurement of a 9 is a Large size glove. (White Overedge Color) Measurement of a 10 is a X-Large size glove. (Black Overedge Color) Measurement of a 11 is a XX-Large size glove. (Brown Overedge Color) Our most popular sizes are small and medium. Please remember that if you are not sure of the correct size after measurement, try the smaller of your choices first.

DoubleGuard™ DoubleGuard™ protection
WHY ADD AN ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT TO GLOVES? The Samurai CR336, CR411 have the DoubleGuard silver based antimicrobial agent in each glove. We recommend always using the recommended washing procedure. DoubleGuard™ antimicrobial offers an additional level of protection that lasts the life of the glove. DoubleGuard™ antimicrobial agents can prevent, reduce & eliminate bacterial growth on the surfaces of the gloves. DoubleGuard™ EFFECTIVENESS: The antimicrobial effectiveness of DoubleGuard™ antimicrobial has been confirmed % effective against a variety of nosocomial airborne bacteria, waterborne bacteria, yeast, fungi, and molds DoubleGuard™ ADVANTAGE: A major advantage of DoubleGuard™ is its ability to withstand processing temperatures up to 800 degrees C while retaining full antimicrobial effectiveness – when organic antimicrobials can decompose or evaporate at a temperature of 250 to 300 degrees C. DoubleGuard™ is designed to prevent growth of microorganisms and the formation of biofilms on surfaces into which it is incorporated. It is not intended to sterilize volumes of liquid or air, since the level of ion release required to do so would be excessive (in the case of air, it would be impossible). Generally, microorganisms grow preferentially on surfaces, which are the leading source of proliferation and contamination. Therefore treating the surfaces is the most efficient approach to controlling these microorganisms. DoubleGuard™ Antimicrobial protection will last for the life of the glove. The gloves are machine and dishwasher safe, bleachable, and can be sanitized without reducing the antimicrobial properties of the gloves. DoubleGuard™ will continue working to reduce, eliminate or prevent the growth of bacteria on the surfaces of the glove, for the life of the glove
