How to tackle the essay:
Step 1: Figure out exactly what is being asked: Describe how one Native American group explains the origin of something through their myths. What is being created? How is it being created? What are some of the techniques that the literature uses?

Describe how one Native American group explains the origin of something through their myths. What is being created? How is it being created? What are some of the techniques that the literature uses? So, I need to show how something came into existence according to one Native American group. I choose the Onondaga Tribe.

Step 2: Start your outline with the body paragraphs:
What is being created? Answer: Earth What do I need next? A quote that proves this and my analysis of that quote. How is it being created? Answer: Sky Chief’s wife falls from the sky with seeds, all of the animals work together to help her, it is the Muskrat with all of his DETERMINATION that is finally able to dig up some earth to grow on the back of the turtle. What are some techniques that the literature uses? Answer: I go to the “Literary Analysis” section at the beginning of these stories, and see that I can use archetypes. I think that the muskrat represents the hero archetype.

Step 3: Build my Introduction Paragraph:
Hook: Something interesting about this topic Brief background: any information I have to get across before starting the essay Thesis: The Onondaga People believe that the Earth was created on the back of a turtle through the heroic actions of one very determined muskrat.

Step 4: Finish with your conclusion paragraph
Restate your thesis Expand (if needed) Make a broad connection People throughout history have been creating origin myths.
