3. Direct Objects “Paco needs a book” - “I saw Mateo”
The Direct Object is the person, place or thing that directly receives the action of the verb.
It usually follows the verb and answers “what” or “who” receives the action of the verb
“Paco needs a book” -
“I saw Mateo”
Object of conjugated verb- before verb

4. Placement Before a conjugated verb ie… Marcos lo lee – Marcos reads it
Attached to n infinitive
ie…Marta quiere leerlo - Marcos wants to read it
Attached to a gerund (ing)
ie…Marcos está leyéndololo – Marcos is reading it
In negative sentences is placed between the “no” and the conjugated verb”
ie…Marta no lo lee – Marcos is not reading it.

5. PERSONAL “A”
The preposition “a” is used when the direct object is specific to people.
“Yo ayudo a Maria” – I help Maria
“Yo llamé a Juan y a Teresa” – I called Juan and Teresa
Also used before “nadie” and “alguien”
“Yo vi a nadie” - I didn’t see anyone
“Vi a alguien” – I saw someone
“Viste a alguien” – Did you see anyone?

6. INDIRECT OBJECT
It indicates to/for whom a noun/action is given/carried out, or from whom something is bought, borrowed, or taken away.
“El me compró un libro” – he bought me a book.
“Yo te escribo cartas siempre” – I always write letters to you.
“ Ellos le dieron el examen (a ella) – they gave the test to her.

8. Placement of double object Pronouns
IF more than one type of object pronoun is used in a sentence, INDIRECT comes before DIRECT.
“Pepe da flores a Chelo los jueves”
“Pepe gives them to her on Thursdays” “Pepe se las da los jueves”
The indirect “le” changes to “se” when combien with “lo, los, la, las”

Paco gives it to me.
Paco me lo da a mí.
