6. DO Now: What is a cell? A cell is the smallest unit of life!
They are composed of many different compartments.
Each compartment has their own task to complete to keep the cell alive

7. A cell is just like a city!
Cells have their own version of the white house, president, security, banks, energy plant, transportation etc.

8. There are two type of cells
Eukaryotic cells= Animal cells and Plant cells
Prokaryotic cells= Bacteria cells

9. Eukaryotic cells= Eukaryotes
Are more complex cells
They have membrane- enclosed nucleus and organelles
We are made of Eukaryotic cells

Does not have a nucleus so DNA is just floating around.
Has ribosomes (to make protein), cell membrane, and a cell wall.

Selectively permeable= Only certain substance can enter
Cell membranes are very similar to a security guard they only let certain substances inside the cell.

I have removed the shell of the eggs by leaving the eggs in acetic acid (vinegar).
The vinegar reacts calcium in the hard shell and dissolves it.

2 cups
2 labels
2 shell-less eggs
One pair of Gloves

21. Lab Procedure 1.Label one cup water and write one group members name
2. Label the other cup corn syrup and write a group members name
3. Write down your observations on the worksheet
4. Weigh both cups with the egg inside
5. Subtract 5.2 grams to the weight of the egg. (since the cup weighs 5.2g) 6.
7. GENTLY add enough water to cover the egg.
8. GENTLY add enough corn syrup to cover the egg.
