1
Rules of Divisibility A number is said to be “divisible” by a number if you can divide it by that number and get no remainder.
2
Rules of Divisibility For example:
8 is divisible by 2, since 8 ÷ 2 = 4 7 is not divisible by 3, since 7 ÷ 3 = 2, r 1
3
Rules of Divisibility A number is divisible by 2 if it is even - that is, if it ends in 2, 4, 6, 8 or 0
4
Rules of Divisibility the sum of its digits are divisible by 3.
A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits are divisible by 3. 3,891 = is divisible by 3 so 3,891 is too.
5
Rules of Divisibility its last two digits are divisible by 4.
A number is divisible by 4 if its last two digits are divisible by 4. 901,264 64 ÷ 4 = 16, so 901,264 is divisible by 4.
6
Rules of Divisibility its last digit is a 5 or 0.
A number is divisible by 5 if its last digit is a 5 or 0.
7
Rules of Divisibility is divisible by 2 and by 3.
A number is divisible by 6 if is divisible by 2 and by 3. 564 last digit even (so 2) 564 = 15 (so 3) Since both 2 and 3, then 6.
8
Rules of Divisibility There are no rules for 7 so you will have to divide a number by hand or by using a calculator to see if it is divisible by 7.
9
Rules of Divisibility its last three digits are divisible by 8.
A number is divisible by 8 if its last three digits are divisible by 8. 72,832 832 ÷ 8 = 104, so 72,832 is divisible by 8.
10
Rules of Divisibility the sum of its digits are divisible by 9.
A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits are divisible by 9. 21,528 = 18. Since 18 is divisible by 9, so is 21,528.
11
Rules of Divisibility its last digit is a 0.
A number is divisible by 10 if its last digit is a 0.
12
Similar Rules 2, 5 and 10: last digit
3 and 9: sum of the digits divided 4 and 8: last two or three digits divided 6: depends on 2 and 3 7: no rules
