LINEAR RATE OF CHANGE- Day 2
EOC Test Strategy LINEAR RATE OF CHANGE- Day 2
2
TEST STRATEGIES FOR LINEAR RATE OF CHANGE
1). Recognize key terms & formats for linear rate of change. 2). Identify whether a problem will use linear rate of change. 3). Read the table to find the linear rate of change. 4). Read the table to find the linear rate of change w/out incremental change in x. 5). Read the table to find the linear rate of change between specified pts. 6). Interpret rate of change in context 7). Extend table to find equation 8). Use calculator to find equation. 9). Interpret the constant & coefficient. 10). Finding specific range value for a given domain value. 11). If no table is given, create one. 12). Relate recursive to tables & explicit form. 13). Reverse from explicit to recursive form.

Review: KEY words for LINEAR RATE of CHANGE
EACH EVERY RATE PER There are others that are not as common: monthly, weekly, daily, a, average…
4
Review KEY features for LINEAR RATE of CHANGE
*Look for equation or functions in slope-intercept form: y =mx + b OR f(x) = mx + b *If you see a table & there are no other hints – check the rate of change in y column. x f(x) -1 6 1 4 3 2

EXAMPLE 2. 1: Is this problem using a linear rate of change
EXAMPLE 2.1: Is this problem using a linear rate of change? Explain your response. Time (seconds) Distance (feet) 1 4.5 2 6 3 7.5 4 9 5 10.5 The table below shows the distance Russell rolled a ball after different amounts of time. What is the average rate of change in the distance Russell rolled the ball between 1 and 5 seconds?

EXAMPLE 2. 2: Is this problem using a linear rate of change
EXAMPLE 2.2: Is this problem using a linear rate of change? Explain your response. The table below shows amounts customers spent at Jolt Coffee Shop over a two day period. The mean for both days was the same. What is the missing value for day two? Day 1 Day 2 $6.50 $8.00 $3.75 $2.25 $5.75 $5.50 ?

YOU TRY: (wkst #2 *Identify which problems will use linear rate of change to solve. *For those that are linear: Mark the text by circling KEY WORDS or writing a note to indicate KEY FORMAT.
