Leadership Summary: The Trustees were given certain responsibilities by King George. As the leaders, you feel a particular sense of urgency to make sure the colony succeeds. Think about what the charter says you can and cannot do as a trustee. How will you coordinate the work of the colonists to keep everyone happy? Problems and solutions: (example: how to balance the good of the whole group against the interests of individuals and families) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Rules Summary: As a Trustee, you were given certain constraints by King George. However, once you hit the ground, you will be looked to by the colonists to provide leadership and controls. Remember, there is no police force and no real process to keep people working toward a common goal. You have agreed to issue “regulations” for controls, but what types of regulations do you think are needed. Problems and solutions: (example: What kinds of basic regulations need to be in place to; how will they be enforced; what will you do if someone breaks a rule? ) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Work Summary: There is much to be done, and relatively few people for the tasks at hand. Once you land in Georgia, the clock is ticking, and you are really in a survival situation. What must be done first, second, etc. How do you balance the needs of the whole colony against the wants of individuals and families to begin work on their own fortunes? Problems and solutions: (example: What are the priorities of work as you see them? How will you notify the colonists of your expectations? Who can do which types of work?) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Security Summary: As you told King George, you intended the colony to provide a buffer between the Spanish and South Carolina. There are few of you to begin with, and among your group, even fewer men. Besides the Spanish, the situation with the Natives is uncertain. You need to think about potential security threats and possible ways to deal with them. Problems and solutions: (example: Where are the Spanish and what if they attack? Who, exactly, is supposed to serve as a soldier in the militia? What immediate threats do you need to prepare for and how many people will be needed for routine security?) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Equipment / Shelter Summary: Once you land in Georgia, you are really on a big campout. There is nothing prepared for your arrival. You must find a place to begin the colony. Your group has two big challenges. First, think about the kinds of equipment you need to establish the colony. Secondly, what kinds of shelter do you need and what are the priorities for construction. Problems and solutions: (example: make a “equipment needed” list; Identify the kinds of shelter needed; other groups will need to know what equipment we have available) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Food / Drink Summary: Without sufficient food, you will die. You challenge is straightforward but difficult. You have an idea of the kinds of foods the colonists arrived with based on your reading. For planning purposes, assume each colonists needs 2 pounds (total) of food per day. Think about the time it will take to begin producing your own food in the Colony. What is your situation with drink? Problems and solutions: (example: calculate the amount of food you need per week/month; think about the time of year and when crops might be developed in a best-case scenario; think of all your options for obtaining food) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:

Negotiators’ Issues Summary: Negotiators work with other groups/countries to establish good relationships. In times of crisis, diplomats try to prevent conflicts. You are aware that England and Spain are competing for space in the New World. There are three main elements that you will be dealing with soon after your arrival: (1) Colonists already established in the New World (2) Natives (3) Spanish. Your awareness of how each of these group will respond to your arrival varies. For each group, you must consider your situation and what their responses might be to your arrival. Problems and solutions: (example: Develop a short plan for dealing with each entity; what are your biggest threats and how can you head off trouble before it starts?) Questions you need answered: Areas where you believe there will be conflicts to resolve:
