New York City- largest city in US located in this region.

3. Midwest Two areas- Great Lakes and Great Plains states.
Great Lakes states- known as the “rust belt” for its aging manufactoring. Other traditional industries are steel and automaking.
The Great Plains states are known as the breadbasket for its emphasize on agriculture and good access to Mississippi River.

4. The South Old Confederacy with large African American population.
Distinct region with rich heritage, culture, and accent.
One third of the population. Humid and hot.
Climate makes it the fastest growing region.

5. The West Largest region in land size with 20 percent of population.
Areas include- Southwest, Interior West, Pacific West plus Alaska and Hawaii.
Southwest has hot dry desert climate with large Hispanic population.
Pacific West includes large timber industry. California host major film industry and tourism.
Interior West- vast landscapes , Rocky Mountains, and national parks dominate this region.
