1 Good Management Matters
General Notes: This presentation focuses on some key industry trends and IREM resources to serve members and the industry as a whole. Customize the presentation to your needs and timing – deliver as is or take out slides as may be necessary. Be familiar with and before presenting Incorporate your personal style and IREM stories: Deliver with your unique voice. Engage the audience – keep your presentation as interactive as possible. Ask questions, ask for input, show props (books, brochures, JPM, etc.). Share your personal IREM experiences – you can make a topic come to life by telling your story. As a general rule, many of the attendees (both member and non-member) at a chapter meeting may not be fully “in the know” about what’s happening within IREM – so be cognizant of this and don’t assume they know what you know. Don’t use acronyms such as IFC or RVP or SVP. Most of our acronyms are understandable only by those on the inside track/leadership. Know who will be in the audience – ask in advance who will be in attendance, and specifically if there will be any VIPs. Always start with thanking the chapter president and the group for the opportunity to speak. Greet the audience as a whole and share some information about yourself and your involvement in IREM. Acknowledge any VIPs as may be appropriate. Share some positive things about the chapter that you might know. On the slides that follow, you will find some talking points – but never make it look like you are just reading a script. Text in italics is instructional. Customize and personalize as appropriate. To print the notes, be sure to select “Print what: Notes Pages” View the slides in slide show format before your presentation to see where some automatic animation has been added. Practice, practice, practice for a smooth delivery and for timing. Be sure you know how much time you are allotted for your presentation.

19 IREM In-District Congressional Visits
The decisions Members of Congress make will affect you and your bottom line Even the most mundane issue can have huge repercussions on you and your business. We need to do everything possible to ensure the passage of beneficial legislation and to stop detrimental bills. Advocacy is important to IREM and our members, as it always has been. And we want to make it easy for you to get involved and be a part of the action, which is why I’m excited to tell you about the IREM Congressional In-District Visits program It’s essentially a “Capitol Hill Visit Day” in your own backyard - you can schedule an appointment to meet with your Member of Congress in his or her District Office to discuss critical issues that impact you and your business. Or if you’re strapped for time like me, you can invite your Member of Congress to a Chapter meeting or a property tour. It’s really that easy. It’s a terrific benefit to meet with a Member of Congress in their district. They tend to give constituents much more time to meet, they also are more relaxed and able to really dig-in to the conversation. Best yet, it’s a cost- and time-effective way to have a major impact. And don’t worry if you’re not a policy wonk, by simply meeting face-to-face with your legislator and sharing a personal experience about how an issue impacts you and your business, you have more of an impact than any professional lobbyist.
