1 “Day B” February 27, 2019 7:51 - 8:51 Exploratory 8:53 - 9:53
7: :51 Exploratory 8: :53 9: :55 Social Studies 10:57 -11:59 12:01-12:31 Science LUNCH (3rd Lunch) 12: :33 English 1: :35 Math Welcome back! You need everything for periods Please make sure you have your: Agenda Pencil Homework Necessary materials for your first 4 classes. No cell phone or gum!

2 Activator Take out your math packet and homework worksheet from last night. 2. Complete on your handout Solve the equation by drawing a tape diagram. Once you have solved your problem, use substitution to check your answer (plug your answer back in for the variable and see if the answer matches). b + 9 = 15

3 Objective: I will be able to solve mathematical problems by writing and solving one-step equations. So that I can learn how to use algebra tiles to model an equation, then use the inverse operations (all four operations) to solve one-step equations algebraically. I will show that I understood it by verbally discussing and successfully solving at least 6 algebraic problems by writing the value of the variable on my worksheets independently or with my partner and I will check to determine if the solutions make the equations true through the substitution method. 6.EE.B.7

4 Vocabulary: one-step equation algebraic equation Expression Inverse
inverse operation Positive Negative algebra tiles

5 #1 pg. 120 b + 9 = 15 b

6 #1 b + 9 = 15 b b = 6 My goal is to isolate the variable. In order to isolate the variable (get it by itself), I need to remove the 9 tiles that I added to the b. However, because an equation is like a scale, whatever I do to one side, I must to do the other, to keep the scale balanced.

7 Algebraically b + 9 = 15 b = 6 - 9 - 9

8 How do you feel? topic.

9 #3 pg. 122 d - 5 =7 d

10 #3 d - 5 =7 d d = 12 My goal is to isolate the variable. In order to isolate the variable (get it by itself), I need to remove the 5 red tiles that I subtracted from the d. However, because an equation is like a scale, whatever I do to one side, I must to do the other, to keep the scale balanced. Since there are no negatives on the right side of my scale, I need to use zero pairs, and add 5 positive tiles to each side of my scale.

11 Algebraically d - 5 = 7 d = 12 +5 + 5

12 I need to go to page 126

13 I need to go to page 127

14 I need to complete my handouts

15 How do you feel? topic.

16 I can use my examples to help!
Homework: Finish the handouts from classwork

17 Ticket to Go Solve algebraically: 12 + v = 19

18 Accommodations Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners
