Covers the surface of the body Protective barrier : microorganisms, fluid loss, maintain internal temp. Excretes wastes ****Homeostasis Structures: skin (integument) Skin has 2 layers: epidermis (superficial) and dermis (deep) Below is layer of fat (hypodermis) which anchors skin to underlying structures

protection of internal organs storage of mineral salts site for blood cell formation Structures: bones, joints and tissue connecting them 206 bones in human body Axial skeleton: head, trunk Appendicular skeleton: arms, legs

Nervous System Functions: communication between body and environment
Structures: brain, ,spinal cord and nerves CNS: central nervous system (brain/spinal cord) PNS: peripheral nervous system (nerves branching off)

Endocrine System: Functions: secretes things, usually hormones, into bloodstream Structures: glands that do not contain duct, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, gonads, pancreas thymus, stomach, kidney,

Functions: move material through body, waste, nutrients, blood Structures: blood vessels, heart, capillaries

Lymphatic System Function: carry fluid throughout body (one-direction, towards heart) Structures: Lymph: yellow, watery fluid that contains NO RBC or platelets Lymph vessels/nodes: Spleen Thymus gland Tonsils
