Objectives of SDP To establish & document a standardized methodology for the development activities of a specific project. To provide a reference for common terminology, definition & vocabulary for software development. To establish clear expectations between acquirer & developer. To define applicability of the software to be developed as; new, modified, reuse, bought out, off the shelf.

Software Development Plan Standards
Define the process & activities necessary to produce quality software. Used to control & manage the process using standardized methods & procedures. Development of software needs to adopt a methodology suitable for the specific software & acceptable for the specific project. Large/complex software development plan requires an overall SDP. Each individual SDP should include the software development resources & organizations, timeline schedule & milestones, security, design, testing, resource utilization control etc.
