Prokaryotes PROKARYOTES Cells lacking membrane bound organelles
Most Cell functions occur in the cytoplasm Has free DNA, no nucleus Has Pili and Flagella for cell movement (locomotion) Has a Plasma Membrane and Cell Wall Contain free Ribosomes Example: Bacteria

Eukaryotes EUKARYOTES Cells with membrane bound organelles
Each organelle has a certain function / “job” in the cell for cell survival Allows for separation of chemical reactions that could not occur simply in the cytoplasm The nucleus controls cell function (Virchow – Cell Structure, Cell Division) Example: Animal and Plant Cells NOTE: Algae and Yeast are eukaryotes and are unicellular
