1 Warm-Up: Choose your slogan. Write it on the ¼ sheet.
Place homework on your desk. Dreams lift us up and transform us. The clothes I wear do not define me. My thoughts, my spirit, my desires are who I am. 3. Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone.

2 Objective: Today’s objectives are:
-to practice context clues and word study; -to practice fluency with strong expression; -to use the Acrostic Activity to summarize chapter six of On the Record. What is your MEASURABLE goal?

3 Agenda: Slogan Collect homework Rewards Add “inflict” and “dexterity” to sheet #2 Word study and context clues Multiple Choice Question: RL.6.3 (show how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution) Read chapter 6- Work on filling in the Acrostic Activity sheet. Closing: Did you meet your goal? What word did you learn?

4 Copy the following words:
I N Q U I S I T I V E N E S S PHENOMENON

5 Find the two words on your “Billy Weadle, Excerpt 3” sheet.
Use context clues to determine the meanings of both words… He stopped from time to time to rest, watching his breath freeze in mid-air. Billy held a fantastic sense of wonder for this phenomenon of nature and sometimes he’d let the time get away from him, just watching. It was then that he would get in trouble with his dad. The man had no tolerance for his inquisitiveness. He called it daydreaming.

6 Inquisitiveness A. happiness B. laziness C. anger D. curiosity Phenomenon A. tragedy B. strange or rare sight C. hot and humid weather D. rare animal

7 Billy can find ways to escape his misery.
RL.6.3: (show how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution) The author most likely includes the event described in lines to show that: Billy is lazy. Billy can find ways to escape his misery. Billy’s father is correct in thinking that Billy is worthless. It is really cold outside.

8 Fluency Billy Weadle, Excerpt #3 Date Title WPM Errors Expression
BW Pt 3

9 Black Widow Read chapter six and complete fill in at least two letters for the acrostic activity. If you are finished, choose a book from the shelf and read silently.

10 Closing Did you meet your goal? What does inflict mean?
What would be the antonym of dexterity?
