What is the relationship between the volume of a cylinder and the volume of a sphere?
Watch the following video to find out!
2
Since one sphere will fill two-thirds of a cylinder,
i.e Vsphere = Vcylinder 3 the formula for volume of a sphere: Vsphere = r2h and since hcylinder = then Vsphere = (r2)(2r) Vsphere = r3 r 2r r
3
Part D – Volume of Spheres
Example: Find the volume of hemisphere with a radius of 7 cm (to 1 dec. pl.) Equation: Substitute: V = 1 of Vsphere 2 V = r3 2 3 V = 4 (7)3 6 V = 718.4 r =7 The volume of the hemisphere is cm3
