Arab scientist, Alhazen, discovered that light traveling through a small hole into a dark room or area can create an image of something outside onto a flat surface. This discovery was called the camera obscura or dark room. Somewhere between

Johann Heinrich Schulze discovered that if the light from the camera obscura was over certain silver compounds, the image would remain for a short time. 1724

Henry Fox Talbot invented the calotype and Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype. Eventually, the daguerreotype won supremacy, but it was difficult to make. 1839

George Eastman invented a dry plate photographic process that made it easier for people to own a camera. 1884
