1 Writing Haikus

2 A Haiku is a form of poetry which originally came from Japan.

3 It is a very short poem consisting of only 3 lines, but in those 3 lines a very clear picture is created.

4 In Japanese, these poems have a certain number of syllables per
line, that is: 5 in the first, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third.

5 Haikus are often about a season of the year
Haikus are often about a season of the year. For example spring or summer. Or they might be the poet’s feelings.

6 Ocean waves bright blue
Sunshine, sailboats and sea breeze Summer at the beach.

7 Rain thundering down Trees bend away from the storm Typhoon season starts.

8 Rainy Monday night, Bamboo creaking in the breeze, Frogs croaking loudly.

9 Pink ……………….. jump …………….. Fish ………… in the ……….. water Beautiful blue ……………..

10 Pink dolphins jump high
Fish swim in the deep water Beautiful blue sea.

11 Sun is going ……………. The ………… is turning orange The ……….. is over.

12 Sun is going down The sky is turning orange The day is over.
