SAE 10W-30
SAE= Society of Automotive Engineers
10= Viscosity measured at 0 degrees
W= Winter grade oil
30= viscosity measured at 212 degrees

13. So what do I choose?

14. All oil is the same if these numbers are the same.

15. API Rating API=American Petroleum Institute
Rating progress from SA through SN (s=spark ignition)
Diesel engines are rated with a “C” (compression) designation
These designations tell us what additive level is in the oil-Government regulated-2011= SN or CJ-4 is mandatory.
Changing brand names of oil will not make a difference, As long as the API numbers are the same.

Make sure you have the right filter before the job
Oil can be hot when draining
Check condition of draining oil, feel, smell, etc.
Check plug gasket
Make sure oil filter gasket comes off with filter
Clean up any spills
Replace plug
Lube filter seal
Spin on filter until it stops then an additional ¾ to 1 turn
Fill engine, start, verify oil pressure, shut down, check for leaks
Finish up job, clean area, oil sticker, etc.
