2 A grocery store is a retail store that primarily sells food
A grocery store is a retail store that primarily sells food. A grocer is a bulk seller of food.

3 During the 14th century a dealer or grocer dealt in dry goods such as peppers, sugars, spices and cocoa and coffee. The term grocer came from the French term groceries. The word gross in grocery means a dozen. So these dealers used to buy in bulk and sell to individuals. But in United States they sold not only groceries but also household items like eggs, baking soda, dry beans, clothes and kitchen appliances.

4 Growth in the food store especially in grocery stores came due to following reasons. Growth in middle class consumer, entery of big corporate sector such as HEB, technological impact and media explosion.

5 The main regulations set up by the government are truth in advertising laws, consumer protection laws and misleading discount prices.

6 Leading business in grocery stores are Wegmans (83 stores in mid Atlantic), Trader Joe’s (408 stores in 30 states), Publix (1080 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia), Costco (648 stores worldwide), Sprouts Farmer Market (150 stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Kansas and Georgia) and the biggest of all Kroger (2,625 stores in 2015).

7 Kroger generated $108.5 billion(2014) and has been listed in S&P 500 NYSE:KR. It was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio (1883) and is the biggest grocery store in US.

8 This industry employees around 15,497
This industry employees around 15,497.5(Nov 2014) a month and the employment trends to go higher every month respectively. Job opening is always going higher as there are number of stores opening every month

9 The stores retailers operate a fixed point of sale location
The stores retailers operate a fixed point of sale location. That means the stores have a permanent location and attract high volume of walk in customers. This industry is economic fluctuated as if the middle class lose money so as retail.

10 The location of the stores has a high chance of predicting the sales
The location of the stores has a high chance of predicting the sales. If the area is good such as Beverly Hills then the store I going to make a lot of money as the sales will be higher because of rich people living in the area. And going to a store will become more like a fashion trend.

11 According to the traditional food store sales by segment, the nonfood sales were $571 billion in In which 80% was by the grocery stores. The average growth of grocery store is 0.08 percent per year.
