2. Theme
Theme is defined as a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work that may be stated directly or indirectly.

3. Don’t confuse theme and subject.
The subject of a literary work can be described in one word. For example, love is the subject of Romeo and Juliet.
The theme is an opinion expressed on that subject that relates to the human experience. For example, love is complicated and can tear apart families if not handled properly is a theme of Romeo and Juliet.

4. Your task… You will be assigned a group.
Your group will be given a short story by Roald Dahl.
Each member of your group will need to read the story.
As you read the story, think about how the story develops the literary elements we have learned so far…

5. Characterization, setting, mood, theme, plot, and tone.
Then, your group will need to create a silent movie that expresses those elements as the story presents them.
With the silent movie you will need to pick the key pieces of dialogue and work to express the other elements visually.
This will be a challenge for you and your group to think creatively on how you will get those elements across to your audience.
