Warm Up Wondrous is this wall-stead, wasted by fate. Battlements broken, giant’s work shattered. Earth-grip holds the proud builders, departed, long lost, and the hard grasp of the grave, until a hundred generations of people have passed. Today, we are going to start to break down your paper into the basic components needed for a speech. Refer to the powerpoint from day 2 for the components of a speech.

Graduation Speech- 3 Main Points
Refer to our graduation outline from Friday. Your research papers should be sectioned and highlighted by now. Utilize this information to fill out your outline. Write clearly and deliberately (NO FILLER). Refer to a visual aid. If you have 6-8 main points in your research paper, you must consolidate.

Main Points 1-3 Open the graduation guideline and fill out the sections for main idea 1-3. You should gather information from your paper but this section should be clear and concise information from your research. You may use first hand accounts but do not make it up. Current/personal relevance can be shown through an anecdote.

The Wanderer

“The Wanderer” "The Wanderer" is arguably the most famous and critically-debated Anglo- Saxon poem, and there are multiple interpretations of it. ... "The Wanderer" is also commonly read in conjunction with the poetry of Boethius. The narrative arc of the poem follows the Wanderer, a former warrior whose lord has recently died. Read and Listen to “The Wanderer” (link on Canvas). Close Read and Annotate (Double Entry Journal) using SIFTT

Double Entry Journal Example
Draw a line down the middle of your paper (hotdog style). At the top of the left side, write “From the Text”. At the top of the right side, write “Analysis” The left side will be copied quotes from the text with their page/paragraph number. The right side will be your thoughts and annotations concerning the quote. *Most texts will require more than one piece of paper.

Closure – 2 to 3 sentences Explain how the melancholy tone of Anglo-Saxon poetry, as seen in our warm up, conveys the grim realities of life during that era. What could be happening in history to perpetuate this common theme?
